The defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants currently hold the second Wild Card spot in the National League and remain within striking distance of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West -- a potential recipe for a blockbuster swap with the Detroit Tigers centered on veteran ace David Price

#SFGiants interested in David Price, but no substantive talks yet as #Tigers wait to determine their deadline plans. @FOXSports

The Detroit Tigers sit at 48-49 after Saturday's win in Boston, 10 games out in the AL Central and 6.5 games out of the second Wild Card spot in the American League. While that is in no way insurmountable with the talent collection the Tigers have assembled, it's still extremely feasible that they'll shift into traditional buyer mode before next week's deadline -- especially if they scuffle this coming week.
Price is due a pro-rated amount of his $19.75 million for this year before hitting free agency this winter. He is 9-3 this year with a 2.31 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a 134-to-27 K/BB ratio in 140 innings pitched (20 starts).
