Zach McAllister's tenure with Tigers lasts just 8 days

Zach McAllister's tenure with the Detroit Tigers lasted only eight days.

The veteran right-handed reliever, signed by the Tigers on Aug. 10 after spending parts of eight seasons with the Cleveland Indians, was designated for assignment after Saturday's game in Minneapolis.

McAllister allowed eight runs on 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings during his short stay. He didn't walk a batter and struck out five.

McAllister's departure cleared a spot on both the 25- and 40-man rosters for Jacob Turner, who will be selected from Triple-A Toledo to start on Sunday against the Twins.

Turner is taking the rotation spot of Blaine Hardy, who went on the disabled list two days ago.
