Zach McAllister, released by Indians 2 days ago, is now a Tiger

DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers have added a familiar veteran who has pitched against them dozens of times over the last eight seasons.

Zach McAllister, who was released by the Cleveland Indians earlier this week, signed with the Tigers on Friday.

To make room for McAllister on the 25- and 40-man rosters, right-handed pitcher Jacob Turner was designated for assignment.

McAllister will be available out of the bullpen on Friday night when the Tigers open a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins.

"(The role) will play itself out. Whenever my name is called, doesn't matter the situation, I want to be ready to go and put up some zeros," McAllister said in an interview from the Tigers dugout before the game.
