Alex Avila, in the midst of an All-Star caliber season, has been batting second when playing against right-handed pitchers. Typically, Nicholas Castellanos bats second against lefties and Avila's replacement, James McCann, hits seventh.

Amid plenty of changes, one thing has been consistent in recent years: Miguel Cabrera batting third and Victor Martinez fourth.
