Alex Avila, in the midst of an All-Star caliber season, has been batting second when playing against right-handed pitchers. Typically, Nicholas Castellanos bats second against lefties and Avila's replacement, James McCann, hits seventh.
Amid plenty of changes, one thing has been consistent in recent years: Miguel Cabrera batting third and Victor Martinez fourth.

Justin Upton spent much of the early part of the year batting fifth. Now he's moved down to sixth, with J.D. Martinez occupying the No. 5 spot.
