Jarrod Saltalamacchia plays catcher, can hit left-handed and has some pop.
The Detroit Tigers signed him for all those reasons. But another reason general manager Al Avila noted when the team announced his signing earlier this month was Saltalamacchia's World Series experience.
In 2013, he was part of a Red Sox team that beat the Tigers in the American League Championship Series and then the Cardinals in the World Series.
"You definitely feel like a different player afterward," Saltalamacchia said. "It's the unknown. That's what everyone kind of goes through, the unknown. Whether you're the first time in the big leagues or first time in the playoffs, you don't know what to expect so after you play and get that under your belt, you're able to breathe a little bit and understand it and take it all in and that's something that's an advantage.
