Lance Parrish has his hands -- and outfield -- full managing Double-A Erie nowadays.
The Detroit Tigers promoted Michael Gerber from Class A Lakeland to Double-A on Wednesday, giving Parrish five outfielders for four lineup spots (including the designated hitter).
Dave Littlefield, the director of player development for the Tigers, said that Parrish will rotate playing time among the five.
“It’s not perfect because there’s probably five guys that need to play there,” Littlefield said. “We’ll rotate it around so everybody will get at-bats. But Gerber is a priority, no doubt.”
Gerber, 24, would have started the season at Double-A had he not suffered a shoulder injury.
