Detroit Tigers bench coach Gene Lamont will manage the team today and Friday in Oakland as manager Brad Ausmus deals with family matters, including the death of his mother, Linda Susan.
The Tigers are looking to complete a sweep of the Phillies at 1:10 today at Comerica Park. They have won eight of their past nine games.
Before the death of Ausmus' mother, Lamont already had been scheduled to manage the Tigers on Friday because Ausmus' eldest daughter, Sophie, is graduating from high school.
“I think that’ll be it,” Lamont said of managing the two games in place of Ausmus.
