DETROIT -- Trevor Williams outdueled Michael Fulmer with six hitless innings despite five walks, allowing Gregory Polanco's first-inning RBI double to stand as the lone run as the Pirates took a 1-0 win over the Tigers in the opener of a day-night doubleheader Sunday at Comerica Park.
Two days after Detroit and Pittsburgh slugged out a 13-10 Pirates win in 13 innings on Opening Day, the two clubs had a stingier rematch on a cold afternoon in Detroit. Both starters struggled commanding the strike zone with first-pitch temperatures at 36 degrees, but induced a slew of softly hit outs to cruise through the respective lineups.
