Drew VerHagen’s return to a starting role went well, and the Hens’ offense broke out the whooping stick against the Clippers on Wednesday. VerHagen threw 48 pitches over four innings with just two hits and an unearned run against as he begins stretching his pitch counts back up. The Hens were clinging to a one-run lead in the sixth when shortstop Willi Castro, who entered the game with an .895 OPS, smashed a three-run homer, his second of the year, to open up space the Hens wouldn’t relinquish. The Hens scored four total in the inning, and came back for four more in the eighth, with Danny Woodrow launching a three-run blast of his own.
