If there was one thing the Detroit Tigers needed more than anything this offseason, it was power.
Last season, in which they went 47-114 for the second-worst finish in franchise history, the Tigers had none. They hit 149 home runs — 29th among 30 teams, and worst in the American League — which was less than half the total of the AL Central rival Twins, who hit an MLB-record 307.
Last year’s Tigers finished next to last in slugging percentage, too, and last in on-base percentage and runs scored.
