Why several Detroit Tigers didn't take the field for national anthem in Cincinnati

Cincinnati Reds star Joey Votto got down on one knee for the national anthem before Tuesday's exhibition game against the Detroit Tigers at Great American Ball Park.

Three more Reds — pitcher Amir Garrett, outfielder Phillip Ervin and infielder Alex Blandino — joined him. Teammates Mike Moustakas, Cody Reed and Sal Romano stood for "The Star-Spangled Banner" but showed their support by placing a hand on the players kneeling.

On the other side, several members of the Tigers refused to exit the clubhouse. While it's unclear which players and coaches stayed inside, the handful who came outside all stood for the anthem.
