COMSTOCK PARK - A player who was stuck in the toughest position on the field delivered the biggest hit of the season for the West Michigan Whitecaps.
Anthony Pereira, asked to play first base for the first time ever earlier, delivered a game-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th Monday to give the Whitecaps a 3-2 victory over Fort Wayne to clinch the final playoff spot for the Midwest League playoffs. And it came in the final regular game of the regular season.

Pereira's fly ball to right, caught on a dive, enabled Brady Policelli to slide in with the winning run to cap a two-run rally and set off a wild celebration that began on the field and continue in the clubhouse as manager Lance Parrish proclaimed to the champagne-soaked team: "Awesome job.
