Whitecaps and Mud Hens rally late for Independence Day victories

The Hens got a decent start from Drew VerHagen and held onto an early lead by the skin of their teeth on Thursday. VerHagen allowed a pair of solo shots which hurt him, but went seven innings of four-run ball with nine strikeouts. After the Indians took an early lead, the Hens got on the board with a solo shot by Dustin Peterson. The Hens gave back for more with a four-run third inning. They added on a couple from there, and needed all of them as Eduardo Jimenez allowed two runs in the bottom of the ninth trying to collect the save, and Caleb Thielbar came on to clean up the mess.
