The Detroit Tigers had their Friday-night game against the Chicago White Sox well-in-hand... until it unravelled in the eighth with lightning speed.
Michael Fulmer’s return to Detroit started off with a superb 1-2-3 first, and the Tigers immediately got him a run with a walk, single, and a Nicholas Castellanos double-play grounder. The plan before the game was to limit Fulmer’s pitch count at about 70; he only needed 44 to get through the first three innings, the sole baserunner in that stretch a leadoff double in the second.
