What they said about Blaine Hardy's big day: 'It's not always about velocity'

DETROIT -- Blaine Hardy walked back to the dugout after throwing his seventh inning on an 88-degree afternoon at Comerica Park and was expecting a handshake from manager Ron Gardenhire, indicating that his day was done.

"I told myself, just get us through five or six inning and let the bullpen do the work," Hardy said. "I got through the fifth and was like, 'All right, I've got one more inning.' I got through the sixth and was like, 'Eh, I can do one more.' And then I got in the dugout after the seventh and Gardy didn't say anything so I was like, 'Oh boy, here we go.
