Before the Detroit Tigers could enjoy their much-needed off-day, many likely to occupy a Metro Detroit golf course, they had this task in front of them: Corey Kluber.
And Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park, facing Kluber, one of baseball’s best right-handers, went about how you’d expect it to go for a team that had played 18 games in 17 days.
“Well, Kluber,” manager Ron Gardenhire said, when asked what the story was from the Tigers’ 9-2 loss to the Indians. “He didn’t really give us too much. He’s pretty good.”
The Tigers (31-36) completed a rough stretch with a blowout loss to the class of the American League Central division, one which highlighted many of the team’s current issues, none bigger than pitching depth, which put the game out of reach late.
