DETROIT - Detroit Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez has a greater appreciation of life after being hospitalized with an irregular heartbeat following the team's June 15 game against Tampa Bay.
The 38-year-old spoke with reporters Tuesday before the team's game against the Kansas City Royals. If all goes well during his pre-game warmup, he could be activated from the 10-day disabled list and return to the Tigers' lineup Wednesday.
Still, the June 15 incident was quite a scare for Martinez, whose dad died of a heart attack.
"You know what, you have to enjoy life every day," Martinez said.
