Victor Martinez appreciates Indians fans' cheers after hit No. 2,000

CLEVELAND -- Victor Martinez said he was genuinely moved by the friendly ovation he got from fans after getting his 2,000 hit Friday night at Progressive Field.

He has 492 of them in this park, more than any place else. Martinez started his career with the Indians in 2002 and played here until he was traded to the Boston Red Sox in 2009.

"This is a place that I called home. I'm always going to have Cleveland in my heart," Martinez told reporters after the game. "It was the team that gave me a chance to become a professional baseball player.
