Verlander stars in reaching 2,000 Ks, Tigers sweep

Detroit – Maybe the Tigers should bolt the doors and batten the hatches. Don’t let the Twins get out of town.

They have now beaten their downtrodden division foes six straight times, finishing off a three-game home sweep Wednesday with a 6-3 victory.

It was the Tigers fourth straight win after dropping 11 of 12.

Justin Verlander was his old stingy self, though his final line doesn’t really show it. He was charged with three runs on six hits (five singles) in 7.1 innings.

But for seven innings, he was cruising. He was getting swings and misses on his fastball, which ranged in speed from 91-95 mph.
