Detroit — If he had his way, Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire would just as soon the Twins keep the champagne on ice for another couple of days.

But the Twins, the team he managed for 13 seasons, took another half-step toward securing the American League Central Division title at Comerica Park Wednesday, beating the Tigers 5-1.

Down 1-0, the Twins got two-run home runs from Luis Arraez in the seventh inning and Eddie Rosario in the eighth to pull away.

They still needed the Indians to lose to the White Sox in Chicago — a game that started 90 minutes later than this one — before they could start the celebration.
