Tim Tebow has earned a promotion in the New York Mets' minor league system.
Just not for his on-field performance.
Tebow, the 29-year-old former Heisman Trophy winner, was batting just .222 when the Mets announced Sunday that he was being bumped up to the organization's high-A team in Port St. Lucie (Fla.).
Sixty-nine strikeouts in 212 at-bats, with three home runs.
But the Single-A Columbia (S.C.) Fireflies are No. 1 in South Atlantic League attendance.
"His on-base (percentage), isolated power, swing, exit velocity, a lot of different things have been much better in the last 15 games," Mets GM Sandy Alderson told reporters.
