CHICAGO -- Detroit Tigers starter Mike Fiers cruised through four innings, fought through the fifth and then fell apart in the sixth.
But he was bailed out by a strong effort from the bullpen and a late run as the Tigers beat the Chicago White Sox 4-3 Friday night at Guaranteed Rate Field in the opener of a three-game series.
Fiers gave up two singles in the sixth and then fell behind White Sox catcher Omar Narvaez 2-0, prompting pitching coach Chris Bosio to visit. Narvaez launched the next pitch to right-center for a game-tying three-run homer.
