CHICAGO -- Detroit Tigers rookie reliever Joe Jimenez entered the game in the ninth inning Friday with the game tied, a rare big-league opportunity in the type of situation he craves.
Just minutes later, he was walking off the field as the Chicago White Sox celebrated a walk-off victory.
Jimenez threw only four pitches. The first 96 mph was sliced to left by Tim Anderson for a double. After getting putting Yolmer Sanchez in an 0-2 count, Jimenez tried to get him to chase strike three. Instead, he lined a game-winning single.
Jimenez said through translator Bryan Loor-Almonte that he appreciates the opportunities to pitch when the game is on the line.
