Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus plans to be selective in using his two most reliable relief pitchers — Alex Wilson and Blaine Hardy — the rest of the season,
Wilson will have had three days’ rest when the Tigers start their next series, Friday against the visiting Minnesota Twins (7 p.m., FSD).
Ausmus said Wilson would have been available if needed Wednesday, but Ausmus chose not to use him in the 7-4 win over the Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park.
“He’s racked up innings,” Ausmus said.
Ausmus said he doesn’t want to put Wilson in a situation where he’s tired and ends up having a couple of rough outings and “it ruins a good year.
