The Detroit Tigers and West Michigan Whitecaps have agreed to a two-year extension of their current player development contract.
The agreement, announced Wednesday, keeps Tigers prospects playing at Fifth Third Ballpark through the 2022 season.
It is the third extension since 2011, when a four-year extension was announced. Then, in January 2015 a two-year extension continued the relationship through the end of the 2020 season.
Dave Littlefield, the Tigers vice president of player development, said that moving forward with the Whitecaps was an easy decision.
"We're thrilled to extend our player development contract with the West Michigan Whitecaps," he said in a statement.
