Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus announced today that designated hitter Victor Martinez will have cardiac ablation surgery and will miss the rest of the season.
Martinez has been on the 10-day disabled list since Sunday after experiencing an irregular heartbeat after the game in Chicago.
ESPN.com reports that Martinez will be placed on the 60-day disabled list on Sunday.

The procedure is designed to scar or destroy tissue in the heart that causes the "incorrect electrical signals to cause an abnormal heart rhythm," according to the Mayo Clinic's website.
