DETROIT -- Victor Martinez will play the final game of his Major League career on Saturday at Comerica Park.
Martinez announced Friday that he would bow out after Saturday night's game, the 1,973rd of his career and his 969th as a Tiger. He will not play in the Tigers' final seven games of the season.
The Tigers plan to honor Martinez before the game against the Kansas Royals at 6:10 p.m. on Saturday.
Martinez, who has been collecting the baseball from each of his hits in this series, said he wanted his final at-bat to be in Detroit.
