DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers have frustrated manager Ron Gardenhire by missing too many cut-off men, including an air-mailed throw by right fielder Nicholas Castellanos on Thursday night.
The solution? The Tigers are instituting a new relay procedure beginning Friday night.
"We've made adjustments on some of our relay systems," Gardenhire said. "It's just a game of adjustments and that's what we're going to do here tonight."
On hits to right field, Miguel Cabrera will stay on the infield rather than follow the lead cut-off man. The Tigers also want second baseman Dixon Machado not to go as deep into the outfield, trusting Castellanos' arm.
