KANSAS CITY – It started in the second inning, with Tyler Collins at the plate.
The Detroit Tigers first threatened against Royals right-hander Yordano Ventura then, with men on second and third base and one out, and after Ventura bounced a breaking ball, it appeared they had an early lead.
Collins gave a half-swing. The ball bounced past catcher Salvador Perez. It hit Collins, but home plate umpire Jerry Meals didn’t see that, only Victor Martinez scoring, and then J.D. Martinez.
But after the call was overturned, from a wild pitch to a hit by pitch to a swinging strike, Collins struck out looking.
