DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers squandered Jordan Zimmermann's best start in almost a year, falling to the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 on Wednesday night at Comerica Park.
It was the Tigers' second one-run loss in a row against the Diamondbacks, who leave town with a two-game sweep of the short series.
Amid another frustrating loss, there was optimism that perhaps Zimmermann has turned a corner for good. He's now pitched well in three consecutive starts after altering the grip on his slider.
He got seven of his 11 swings-and-misses on the slider Wednesday night, and his control was pinpoint.
