DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers have signed veteran reliever Junichi Tazawa to a minor-league contract, the team announced Monday.
The news was first reported by MassLive.
Tazawa, who turns 32 this month, posted a 3.20 ERA in five full seasons as a set-up man with the Red Sox, striking out 291 batters in 283 innings from 2012-2016.
He parlayed his success into a two-year, $12 million contract with the Miami Marlins, but he struggled from the outset in his new home.
Before being released on May 23, he recorded a 6.57 ERA in 75 1/3 innings with the Marlins.
