The Detroit Tigers made another minor league signing Wednesday.
The team agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher Michael Crotta, according to a person with knowledge of the signing. Crotta has limited major league experience and spent the past two seasons pitching in Japan’s Nippon Professional League.
Crotta, 31, has a 4.54 ERA in seven minor league seasons in the Pirates’ organization. He made 15 appearances in 2012, allowing 11 runs on 20 hits in 10 2/3 innings for a 9.28 ERA.
The past two seasons in Japan, he posted a 3.93 ERA and 1.379 WHIP.
Crotta will serve as organizational minor league relief depth.
