DETROIT -- Casey Mize, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, is officially a Tiger.
Mize was introduced to the media Monday afternoon at Comerica Park before the Detroit Tigers' game against the Oakland Athletics.
"It's such an honor to join a great organization like the Tigers," said Mize, who played catch on the field before the press conference.
Mize agreed to a $7.5 million signing bonus, according to MLB.com. That's about $500,000 below slot value but is tied for the second-highest overall signing bonus in draft history.
Scott Pleis, the Tigers' director of amateur scouting, said the negotiation process was smooth.
