With very little pomp, the Detroit Tigers announced the minor league signing of former Seattle Mariner Gordon Beckham to a minor league deal. You could be forgiven for missing the news entirely, as it was revealed for the first time via a press release in which players who would receive a non-roster invitations to spring training camp were announced. Infielder Beckham was among those names.
So many people were focused on young prospect pitcher Casey Mize getting a camp invitation, the inclusion of Beckham on the list slipped past most people’s notice.
Beckham, 31, has spent most of his career with the Chicago White Sox, making him a familiar face to Tigers fans.
