CHICAGO -- Jose Iglesias is now a citizen of the United States.
The Detroit Tigers shortstop attended a naturalization Friday in Detroit, according to manager Ron Gardenhire.
He joined the team in Chicago a few hours before their evening game against the Chicago White Sox. Iglesias won't be in the lineup, but will be available off the bench.
Iglesias, 28, was born in Cuba, defected in July 2008 and signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox a year later. He was traded to the Tigers in 2013.
