The Detroit Tigers selected right-handed pitcher Matt Manning from Sacramento (Calif.) Sheldon High School with the ninth overall pick in the Major League Baseball draft.
Manning, who is committed to Loyola Marymount, was ranked No.11 by both Baseball America and MLB.com.
Manning (6-foot-6, 185) has a high-90s fastball, curve and changeup.
He is the son of former NBA player Rich Manning, who played for the Vancouver Grizzlies and L.A. Clippers in the mid 90s..
According to the Sacramento Bee, Manning was 2-1 with a 1.91 Era and 77 strikeouts in 40 1/3 innings in eight starts this season.
