Detroit — The Tigers' bark was louder than their bite for much of this one.
But with hundreds of dogs in the stands, the cats clawed to life late as the Tigers beat the Seattle Mariners, 4-2, on Tuesday night at Comerica Park.
Mike Aviles' infield single in the eighth inning put the Tigers ahead and James McCann added a sacrificde fly as Detroit won for the 14th time in 18 games at home.
Justin Verlander didn't get the win, but he was outstanding again, allowing just the two runs on one bad pitch -- a 96-mph fastball that Kyle Seager drilled for a long home run in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie.
