SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Detroit Tigers have released veteran closer Francisco Rodriguez after a miserable 2017 campaign, just one day after he allowed a grand slam in a loss that sunk the Tigers into last place.
The Tigers recalled right-handed reliever Bruce Rondon from Triple-A Toledo to take his place.
The team announced the move just hours before their series opener against the San Diego Padres Friday night at Petco Park.
