Tigers, Red Wings may start their own TV network to broadcast games

DETROIT -- The holding company that controls the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings is exploring the possibility of forming its own regional sports network to broadcast games.

The Ilitch Organization announced its plans via a press release Thursday morning. It said FOX Sports Detroit, which currently broadcasts the Tigers and Red Wings, is a "great partner" and that an extension is still possible.

"At the same time, we have two perennially highly-rated and historic franchises, which provide compelling year-round content and programming," said Chris Granger, the group president for sports and entertainment at Ilitch Holdings, Inc.
