CLEVELAND -- The Detroit Tigers have recalled left-handed pitcher Chad Bell from Triple-A Toledo to bolster their bullpen.
The move filled the spot created when outfielder Mikie Mahtook was optioned to the Mud Hens.
Bell, 29, made his Major League debut for the Tigers on May 10, 2017. He went 0-3 with a 6.93 ERA, striking out 57 and walking 31 in 62 1/3 innings last season.
He has made only one start for the Mud Hens so far in 2018 but was scheduled to pitch Thursday, so he will be at full rest when he joins the Tigers bullpen.
