TORONTO – Joe Jiménez, who has been considered the Detroit Tigers’ closer of the future, is now the closer in the present.
The Tigers announced Monday that closer Shane Greene has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain.
Manager Ron Gardenhire said Jiménez is "comfortable enough now" to handle the closer's role.
"I don't think he worries about too many situations," Gardenhire said. "He just likes to pitch. We'll just give him the ball. Ultimately, it's going to be a great learning experience for him. He's done it one or twice.
