The Hens’ bats were cold on Tuesday night and they couldn’t take advantage of a decent outing by the bullpen. Jose Fernandez started things off with two scoreless innings, but Gregory Soto’s outing ended on a sour note after giving up two runs in the fifth. Jordy Mercer doubled in Jacob Robson in the top of the fifth which gave the Hens a short-lived lead, but otherwise the offense couldn’t take advantage of five free passes issued by Clippers’ pitching. Ethan DeCaster allowed a solo shot in his inning of relief, and an error on Dustin Peterson at first set up another run against Zac Reininger in the seventh as the Clippers edged away.
