Ryan Carpenter and Chih-Wei Hu locked up in a hard-fought duel on Friday night, but the Hens’ offense and bullpen let them down. The Clippers got a run in the first, but Carpenter spun five more scoreless innings from that point on. The Hens offense managed just five singles and two walks, and never really built scoring opportunities, but the lead was just one until John Schreiber pitched himself into a jam in the eighth and allowed a run on a wild pitch. Caleb Thielbar allowed another single run in the ninth, and the offense didn’t have a rally in them.
