In a bit of a surprise, the Detroit Tigers have promoted switch hitting shortstop Willi Castro to the major leagues. The move was precipitated by Niko Goodrum being moved to the 10-day injured list. Castro is the Tigers 11th ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline.
The 22-year-old Castro has put together a solid campaign in his first full season at the Triple-A level. He posted a 113 wRC+, with 11 home runs and 17 bases for the Mud Hens this season. Questions have remained about his tendency to be error prone, despite his solid skillset for the position.
