Tigers' post-All-Star break turnaround hinges on improved pitching

TORONTO -- If the Detroit Tigers plan to make a playoff push in the second half of the regular season, one they were expected to make after a slew of splashy off-season signings and a payroll north of $200 million, it's going to take better pitching to do it.

The Tigers saw another start sputter Sunday in a 6-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, their series finale that sends them 46-42 into the All-Star break this week. Anibal Sanchez lasted just four innings in a rocky outing that saw him struggle with location yet again.

Matt Boyd, the Tigers' temporary fourth starter with Jordan Zimmermann (neck strain) and Daniel Norris (oblique strain) still on the disabled list, has been unreliable when it comes to going deep into games.
