DETROIT -- Major League Baseball acknowledged that "mistakes were made" in the replay review of a play at home plate on Opening Day, Detroit Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire said.
The Tigers started celebrating a come-from-behind victory on Friday when Nicholas Castellanos was called safe after sliding across home plate.
But the excitement turned to anger after the call was reversed following a four-minute review. The Tigers eventually lost the game in 13 innings. Gardenhire was upset both about the time required to make the decision and the lack of definitive video evidence.
MLB acknowledged that the replay process erred in both respects, Gardenhire said.
