A freak accident will sideline blue-chip Tigers pitching prospect Kyle Funkhouser for the remainder of the season.
The Tigers announced Tuesday that Funkhouser fractured a bone in his right foot after turning an ankle on an uneven sidewalk while walking home after a recent game.
He will need surgery, the Tigers said, but should be ready for the start of spring training.
Funkhouser, 24, a fourth-round pick by the Tigers in 2016 after staying at Louisville when the Dodgers drafted him in the first round a year earlier, began the season at Double-A Erie before recently getting promoted to Triple-A Toledo.
