DETROIT -- A matchup of two top starting pitchers didn't amount to much Saturday night, but while the Seattle Mariners bullpen held firm, the Detroit Tigers' faltered.
The Mariners beat the Tigers 9-5 in Game 2 of the doubleheader at Comerica Park.
Tigers starter Michael Fulmer didn't make it out of the fifth inning, allowing six runs on five hits, including two homers. Felix Hernandez gave the Mariners five innings, but surrendered five runs on eight hits.
The Mariners insulated their lead from a Tigers' comeback threat by posting three more runs in the seventh off struggling reliever Daniel Stumpf.
