CHICAGO -- Detroit Tigers pitcher Matthew Boyd and his wife Ashley have opened a children's home in Uganda and are preparing to launch a foundation dedicated to rescuing girls and young women from the sex trade.
Boyd said complete information and a website will be forthcoming later this season when their non-profit status is finalized, but he shared a few details this weekend before his start in Toronto.
Kingdom Home, which will be the name of the Boyds' foundation, has already opened its doors with the help of another charity that operates homes in Africa.
"We have 35 girls, ages 8-14, in a home right now in Uganda, that have been rescued from prostitution rings, a brothel, forced child marriages," Boyd said.
