PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Right-hander Jordan Zimmermann had one goal in his second start of the spring: No walks.
Well, he definitely accomplished that goal. But it came at a cost. He was roughed up early and often in the Detroit Tigers’ 6-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays before 3,314 fans on a blustery day at Charlotte Sports Park.
Zimmermann (0-1) threw 45 pitches and allowed four earned runs on five hits with one home run and three strikeouts in 2u2154 innings. The Rays got several solid hits off Zimmermann, including two doubles and a sharp single.
